This significant holiday commemorates the declaration of Vietnam’s independence from France in 1945 (1858-1945 ) by President Ho Chi Minh in a meeting held at Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi. In the declaration, President Ho Chi Minh declared the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam to the people of Vietnam and the world.

For Vietnamese, we are so proud of our victory which holds a special place in the heart of every Vietnamese with the annual significant events. The day serves as a symbol of national pride, unity, and the Vietnamese people’s struggle for freedom and independence.

A Momentous Event in Vietnamese History:
Vietnam National Day can be traced back to the end of World War II when Japan surrendered to the Allies. Taking advantage of the power vacuum, the Viet Minh, led by Ho Chi Minh, seized control of Hanoi and declared Vietnam’s independence from French colonial rule on September 2, 1945. This event marked the beginning of a long struggle for full independence and national reunification, which was ultimately achieved in 1975 with the end of the Vietnam War. To gain independence, there were millions of Vietnamese heroes died for the country!

Celebrating Vietnam National Day: Traditions and festivities across the country to honor the occasion, Vietnamese commemorate this monumental occasion with flags, cheerful festivities
This is an official public holiday, so workers, office employees, and students are off on this day. Some companies also hold group tours for their staff. Some common festivities on this day include swimming, sailing, and boat racing festivals, which are held in many places. These attract many participants.

To celebrate National Day, families, stores, and shopping centers everywhere display Vietnam’s red flag with a yellow star. The streets are filled with flags and banners. Some people also hold meetings at the centers of big cities.

Ho Chi Minh, Uncle Ho -the father of the nation, the founder of the Vietnamese Communist Party, and the first President of Vietnam, has never died, he is always in our hearts! On this day, he passed away at the age of 79 years old (19.5.1890-2.9.1969), our big sorrow before our country was reunited on 30th April 1975, we also pay honor visits to the Mausoleum where his body was laid as he is sleeping. We would visit the Mausoleum at least one time in our lives to learn and respect him.
