Ubud

Ubud is the cultural and spiritual heart of Bali, a lush hill town famous for its tranquil vibe, traditional arts, and iconic natural sights. Start your journey at the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, where hundreds of long-tailed macaques roam among moss-covered ancient temples and jungle trails. Then, marvel at the region's famous emerald landscapes at the Tegalalang Rice Terraces or get an adrenaline rush with white-water rafting on the Ayung River. History and art lovers should visit Ubud Palace (Puri Ubud) and the Pura Taman Saraswati, a beautiful water temple dedicated to the goddess of knowledge. For a refreshing escape, head just outside town to the stunning Tegenungan Waterfall. Ubud is also an excellent place to take a Balinese cooking class or simply enjoy a relaxing spa day.
To make the most of your visit, remember these practical tips. The best time to visit is during the dry season from April to October, when the weather is sunny and ideal for outdoor exploration. Dress modestly when visiting temples, cover your shoulders and knees; sarongs are often available for rent at the entrance. It's also a good idea to bring cash (Indonesian Rupiah) for local markets, small eateries (warungs), and temple donations, as cards are not always accepted. While the town center is walkable, sights like the waterfalls and rice terraces are further out, so the best way to get around is by renting a scooter or using ride-hailing apps.
