WORSHIP AND RELIGIOUS TRADITION

Worship “Quan Than Linh” (the Head God) is the essential tradition of Vietnamese at exactly the middle of the night. This tradition means to welcome God to the home for the Tet Holiday and pray for luck and peace coming with the new year. For the set used for this tradition, normally, each family will prepare a boiled chicken with rose, boiled pork, sweets and fruit, Banh Chung or Banh Tet, rice and salt, votive paper money, and incense. The special point of this tradition is that the set for worship tradition will be put outside on the entrance door of each family.

If you want to see this tradition, you can simply go around the city. This is because this is a common tradition for every Vietnamese household. Going around during this time, you can see the perspective and energetic vibes in the south side, or the calm vibe in the north with the scent of frankincense wafting in the cold air. Besides, after Eve is the time to go to the pagoda. People believe that you can find peace and luck when visiting the pagoda or temple in the first moment of the new year.

HANGING OUT ON THE LUNAR NEW YEAR’S EVE

This special moment is worth sharing, and the festival vibe is full around the city. Before and after Eve, you can have many possibilities to find a good spot to connect with both local and foreign friends, enjoy happy moments, and taste some good local food and beverage. For example, an informal tradition of Hanoian after watching fireworks is going to eat Bun Oc (snail sour noodle).
